You always hear people say that nothing beats a mother’s pain when she sees her child suffer. My two children have asthma since they were still young. I have been to many pediatricians only to find out that there is no solid cure. My hope would be that they would outgrow the disease.
After spending a sizeable amount of money getting in and out of the hospital, I decided to try home remedies. Gladly, it did work with my two daughters and their asthma attack has reduced. Since herbal treatments are common here in the Philippines, I decided to try and improvise. Here are my two cents on how to relieve your child’s asthma.
What is Asthma?
According to National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, Asthma is a chronic (long-term) lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways. It causes recurring periods of wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing. The coughing often occurs at night or early in the morning. I have heard some people die because of asthma.
How to Relieve Asthma?
What you need:
2 pcs Kalamansi sliced in half
13 Oregano extract (crushed to get the extract)
honey to taste
water
How to Prepare:
Step 1. Squeeze Calamansi juice into your glass.
Step 2. Mix the oregano extract, honey, to taste and water to reduce the consistency.
Have your child drink the concoction. Do this daily until the condition improves.
Health Benefits of Kalamansi and Oregano
Kalamansi or Calamansi – This is an extremely sour variety of citrus fruit commonly found in the Philippines. This is rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium, and calcium. This small fruit also has antioxidant. What’s the taste compared to the health benefits you get from it? Its benefit includes the ability to:
- Boost the immune system
- Aid in losing weight
- Stimulate growth and repair
- Detoxify the body
- Lower cholesterol
- Manage diabetes
- Treat respiratory infections
Oregano – This plant is also common in the Philippines and it is easy to grow. You can even grow it in your own backyard. Not only is this medicinal, this is also used in culinary. It has antibacterial properties, anti-inflammatory properties, protecting against cancer and can be used for following illnesses and conditions: cold sores, muscle pain, acne, dandruff, bronchitis, allergies, sore throat among others.

I’m so sorry! My nephew had really bad asthma as a kid. He did outgrow it but it’s no where as bad as it was. I hope your kids do! I suffer from asthma and it isn’t fun. I’ll have to give this a try. Thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome. It worked for my kids. Good luck to you!
This is really good information for people who suffer from asthma. I think natural remedies are always better. Thanks for the recipe!
Love anything that is homeopathic. So much of treatments today are over the counter and this is a welcomed remedy. Bless you, and your children for undergoing this process and thanks for sharing the recipe!
You know what is interesting? I actually grew up in very high altitude – 4200m above sea level, and surprisingly, it’s better for people with asthma. Something about the air being thinner makes it easier to breathe. I actually knew families that moved there because of the altitude to lower the suffering of their child, so I totally hear you but I’m glad you found a way to help your kid.. In the end, it seems like mothers feel more pain than their children.
My son outgrew asthma. It’s scary and if you can use natural remedies then I think that’s the best!
You are awesome for coming up with your own home remedies. I think it will help a lot for people with asthma.
