Freelancing has become popular kind of work these days. Basically, because it is the most convenient job for a stay-at-home mom.
When I had my third child, I was stuck. Where? At home taking care of the kids and the house as it is very difficult to find a nanny. So there I was, lying in bed, bored yet tired. Don’t get me wrong, taking care of the kids is rewarding but a lot of work. I’m just staring at the ceiling thinking of what ifs? And then I realized, this should not be a what ifs because this is my reality, taking care of my three kids, no work, no social life, and budget constrained.
So I turned on my computer, did a friendly visit with Google and looked for “how stay-at-home moms earn money”. It resulted in a lot of helpful information. So I tried at least about three of them, selling online, pay per click which proves to be tedious for a minimum amount earned and freelancing. To make the story short, freelancing worked for me. Now, why freelancing.
1. Traffic – Going to and fro from home to work is taking up a lot of time. Even if you leave home at 6:00 am, you still get stuck in traffic for 2-3 hours. That is how worse the traffic situation is. In the long run, you realize, you spend too much time outside than at home with kids.
2. Unable to find a Nanny – Seeking outside help in taking care of the kids is the only way for us to go to work. Sometimes, you get to have one for a few months but what if she decides to leave you? You cannot do anything about it. Yes, you can try and ask for her to stay a bit longer until you find a replacement. But what if you cannot do anything more to stop this? Your work will certainly suffer or the kids for that matter. Working at home addresses this problem.
3. Saves on makeup, fare, and clothes – You don’t need to buy clothes all the time or makeup for that matter. You get up and work in front of the computer regardless of how you look. I guess, the only time you’ll be needing to look presentable is when your boss requests a meeting via video call. Other than that, you don’t need to worry.
4. You satisfy your role as a mom/dad and helping out financially. You get to have quality time with your kids without the extra expenses for getting a nanny. Now, you get to have an income while taking care of your kids.
5. You have the freedom to choose your kind of work. There is a lot of work posted in freelancing platforms and you have the freedom to look out for the one that suits you.
6. You get to choose your own rate. Freelancing with the word “FREE” in it. You get to have a free hand on everything.
7. Work from home. – Lastly, working has never been convenient with freelancing. You are able to do your job anywhere and at any time.
If this isn’t convincing enough, I don’t know what is. I hope this gives you something to think about when you consider another career path to take.

I’d love to freelance to make side money to save towards a house. My big thing now is time. Work that requires a lot of home time in addition to the 40 hour work week, dissertation, and most importantly I’m a mom. I’m grateful for all of the above, but it def. keeps me busy.
Hi Rosey, yes. We are alike in so many ways. We have the same goals I guess. The only difference is I work full time in freelancing. I did get outside help so that is how I am able to do all of this. I hope you get what you aim for. Just stay positive and it will come. I believe at the right time, it will be yours. 🙂 Thanks for dropping by.
Hoping someday after I am out of school this will be more of a reality to me! It seems so freeing to be able to set your own schedule, rates and content!
It is. The freedom is yours and it is what I love about it. 🙂
I have done a little bit of freelancing. Being able to earn a little extra money on my own time is nice.
Early on, my aim was to do this as a means to have extra money. Now, it has been my bread and butter for a few years now.
Freelance work is awesome and Inknowquitafewpeople considering it. I will ShareThis post, because you give great reasons.
Awesome! Thank you so much.
This list is perfect. I agree with everything especially #4. If people can do it, working from home is amazing.
Thank you. Many still have no idea how this can be done. I aim to share my knowledge on this in the hopes that it would work well for them.
I do a little freelancing here and there but as Rosey says, I struggle with time.
I started doing this part time. After a few months, I’ve learned to balance work and mommy duties. Now I’m doing it full-time. I hope you do, too, but yes it is a struggle at first.
I am really interested in freelancing as a career. I am looking into it. However, I am a bit confused how to get started on it.
Hi Kaitlynn, I used Upwork as a platform. If you want to start your career with Up work, here is an article I wrote to get you started. https://pinoyfreelancingmom.com/steps-starting-freelancing-career-upwork/
Let me know if you have questions. I’d be happy to help.
I am taking a freelance job as a content maketing, but truthly it does not gain me a lot of money. However, I got more free time to do other things I love like playing chess with my younger sister or studying a new language. But I still love your sharing. Thanks!
Hi Nina, I’m sad to hear that but I am glad other things are keeping you busy. 🙂
Being your own boss, being a contracted worker, and being able to work from hoe have some awesome benefits! Especially with a family!
Spot on. 🙂 That’s why I love this job. Satisfies everyone!
These are all so true. I am not a mom yet but working as a freelancer really affords me time to pursue so many other things in life.
I am doing my online activities on a part-time because I have a day job. One of the setbacks in pursuing an online career is the issue of security. And the most difficult part is when no one among the people that surrounds you seems to understand. But still, since I love this kind of work, I am trying to find time to do it. I love learning new things every day.
That’s great, Sharon. I agree with you. Most online jobs do not have security but if you love what you do, love the work, and if it satisfies most of your needs, go on. It took me about 2 years to find a job that will give me a steady income. I am sure, you will, too.
